Treadlight Farm, established in 2015,  grows specialty cut flowers on one acre in the hills of Delaware County, 6 miles outside of Bovina, NY. We sell our flowers at farmers markets locally and in Westchester County, to wedding clients, and to flower designers and florists. Our crops are grown organically (though we are not certified) in permanent, no-till beds, and are cultivated and harvested by hand from May through October.

We are looking for a farm crew member to assist in all aspects of our farm work for the coming season: seeding, planting, weeding, harvesting, packing, greenhouse care, flower arranging, and more. Through your work you’ll learn no-till production practices and the daily workings of a relatively new, rapidly expanding farm operation. This is an ideal position for someone interested in small-scale intensive farming, no-till agriculture, market gardening, and ornamental plant production.

Abode Farm is Hiring for 2017!

 Abode Farm— is a cooperatively run 8-acre horse-powered farm in New Lebanon, NY. We produce vegetables, herbs, and flowers for our summer and winter CSA, wholesale accounts, schools, and farmers markets. Our farm is located on historic Mount Lebanon, a diverse ecological site; with wetlands, ponds, streams, woodlands, and meadows. We work to honor this diversity in our growing practices with a holistic farm system that builds soil, protects wildlife, and produces healthy crops.

Practices— Our bio-extensive farm system focuses on diversity, cover cropping, composts, mineral amendments, and careful crop rotation. We do not use any synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides on our farm. We rely on our Belgian draft horses as our primary source of power, which helps us stay light on the land, and sensitive to the biological rhythms we work with. We also use a small Farmall Cub tractor for bed-preparation and light tillage.

Community— The farm is a dynamic educational and community space. We share our land with The Abode of the Message—a Sufi spiritual community, and Flying Deer Nature Center. It’s a busy place and there are always events going on. At the farm, we host many performances, workshops, potlucks, artists’ visits, and educational programs throughout the season. Community outreach and food access are extremely important to us. We are looking for someone who has an interest in community organizing, food justice, and education in addition to holistic agriculture.

47 acre educational farm in Queens is looking to add one full-time, year-round worker. Primary responsibilities will be to assist farmer in vineyard and vegetable production, but must be willing to do general labor work as required. Some weekend work and seasonal attendance at farmer’s market. Farm experience and interest in organic and sustainable practices preferred. Gladly willing to train an inexperienced but enthusiastic and hard-working assistant. Tractor driving experience a plus; must drive standard transmission. Starting ~ $12/hr. Background check, clean driving record, two week trial period.

Description of Farm

The Queens County Farm Museum occupies New York City ’s largest remaining tract of natural, undisturbed farmland. Encompassing a 47 acre parcel in Floral Park, this remarkable piece of land is among the last vestiges of a 400 year history of agriculture as a way of life and livelihood in New York City . The farm is expanding its farming operations and is committed to sustainable practices. To embrace the history of agriculture is to acknowledge the ecological and social importance of agriculture in our present lives. The Farm Museum recognizes the interdependence of the health of our farm and the health of the community of New York City . The farm is home to a two acre vineyard, a small orchard, a 4000 sq foot glass greenhouse and 3000 square feet of cold frames. We are currently developing a comprehensive composting program, refurbishing our cold frames to grow market vegetables in the winter, and expanding our fruit and vegetable fields. The farm is also home to laying hens, goats, sheep and pigs.
