white oak farm

“greenhorn at heart” sarah parker sent us this note about a great farming project in oregon.

White Oak Farm & Education Center is a lovely little nonprofit in Williams, Oregon. It’s a community-funded venture that functions with the help of some brave young farmers. Members act as stewards, maintaining and living on the farm, and selling produce as part of a local CSA and farmer’s market while providing an example of sustainable farming and conscientious living. During the summer months the farm enlists the help of a couple of interns (all positions are filled for this year) to put on a variety of education events, workshops, and children’s camps.

Workshops for this season include permaculture/eco-forestry and natural building. There are still open spaces for any greenhorns seeking to learn more about self-sufficiency (it doesn’t get much more self-sufficient than building your own house)!

Find them online at: http://www.whiteoakfarmcsa.org/

By day I’m a student in Landscape Architecture (in Pennsylvania, but currently abroad in New Zealand) interested in food infrastructures and permaculture design. I’ve been involved in the farm vicariously for two years through my partner, Tyler Walter, who went there to be a farm and natural building intern in 2008. We’ll be returning to White Oak this June.
