Yeah, these HA Rey books are great!
For another whole layer, though, check out Guy Ottewell’s books. His Astronomical Companion is an amazing, hand-drawn series of increasingly large spheres of space….they offer a rare glimpse of the three-dimensional nature of the galaxy and cosmos, a welcome revelation after years of “flat” sky maps. There are also incredibly cogent narratives about the closest stars, the brightest stars, as well as comets, meteor showers, etc.
Each year he puts out an annual guide as well, called the Astronomical Calendar.
The Companion is essential for understanding our celestial landscape; the Calendar is great for more in-depth observing.
