Food, From Field to Fork

a fundraiser for our good friends at Growing Chefs

Join us on Saturday, February 27th as we gather foodies, green thumbs, and chefs to celebrate the art of eating well from field to fork.

Hosted by local foods based specialty shop Urban Rustic, the evening will include an endless sampling of seasonal local treats prepared on site by the culinary team at Growing Chefs in partnership with Brooklyn Standard.

Live music and a spectacular live auction featuring…

An apple tree lease from Liberty View Farms ** Beekeeping lessons with Silvermine Apiaries ** seedstock from Hudson Valley Seed Library **private rooftop tour of a minifarm greenroof in SOHO with Goode Green ** composting kit and wintertime reading from celebrated author Annie Hauwk ** a subscription to Diner Journal ** fresh off the press “The Art of Eating In” by Cathy Erway ** gift certificate to Franny’s ** treats from vendors of Greenpoint Food Market ** passes & beer from Brooklyn Brewery **a private day on the farm with Annie Novak…and much more!

About your hosts: Growing Chefs: Food Education from Field to Fork was founded in 2005 to connect young eaters to their food with the simple act of planting a seed. Over the past five years, the culinary and horticultural team has grown to partner with Slow Food, Just Food, Greenmarket, and Health Corps to carry forth its basic philosophy: broccoli is not boring! In 2009, Growing Chefs hosted over 30 workshops and classes at the Eagle Street Rooftop Farm (www.RooftopFarms.org), instructing students and adult professionals on composting, growing your own food, urban sustainability, green roofs, and the ecological art of eating good food.
