crew leader – cure organic farm

Cure Organic Farm is seeking an experienced intern to join us as our Crew Leader beginning in March 2010.
The position requires experience in organic vegetable production, tractor operation, fieldwork, animal care, excellent communication. Dedication, self-motivation, strong work ethic and a rock-solid good attitude are also necessary. The Crew Leader will lead and oversee interns, volunteers and hourly field workers on a daily basis.

This is a leadership position. The Crew Leader will organize daily tasks and set and maintain the crew’s pace in the field. Crew Leader works directly with the Farmers. The Crew Leader should expect to work up to 70 hours a week during the peak season, Monday through Friday, alternating Saturday’s at the farmers market and alternating weeks on animal duty. The work day begins at 6am, we take a one hour lunch around noon and the day usually finishes up around 5pm. This is a 9 month salaried position, March through November.

Salary at $12,600 (subject to taxes) depending on experience. In addition to salary, one week paid vacation (not applicable during June, July & August) and all farm products are also available. Housing option available on farm.

Crew Leader applicants will have a serious interest in commercial organic vegetable production, and a minimum of 2 full seasons of field work on a farm with cultivating, harvesting and post harvest handling experience. Previous management experience preferred. Tractor experience is helpful. Applicants must have the physical ability to work daily with hands, wrists and back, and to lift 50 pounds regularly. Applicants should expect to work outside in all weather conditions including rain, snow and daily summer heat of 90-100 degrees. Qualified applicants will be emotionally mature, ready for leadership responsibilities, flexible, organized and able to work well with a diverse group of people.
