Teach Out! Engaging our Local Food Cycle

An opportunity to learn about and work for a local farm. Coordinated by the Food Justice Project of the Community Alliance for Global Justice

Marra Farm; Saturday, May 30th 10am-2pm

JOIN THE GUIDED BIKE RIDE, OR CAR-POOL!

Marra Farm is a model urban community farm engaging people in sustainable agriculture and education while enhancing local food security. Tucked into the South Park neighborhood of Seattle, it has 4 acres of historic preserved farmland. It is one of the last two remaining pieces of original agricultural land in Seattle. Marra Farm generates tons of fresh, organic produce, with more than 13,000 pounds grown each year in the Lettuce Link Giving Garden. In addition to residents growing food for their own families, distribution includes donations to local residents and the senior lunch program through the Providence Regina House Food Bank, Mien senior citizens, and Concord Elementary School students and their families.

About these visits:

CAGJ’s Food Justice Project invites our members and others to learn about and build connections with key players in the local food region through monthly visits to farms, community kitchens, and community gardens! The site visits will include hands-on work that is needed by or is appropriate to the sites, opportunities to debrief and reflect at the end of the site visit, and calls to action! Each visit will allow for carpool options and will also feature a bike route guided by a CAGJ member. Through these visits, CAGJ hopes to facilitate a place for the voices of our local food producers to be heard and their knowledge and skills to be recognized and celebrated.
